North Carolina has expanded who can get Medicaid as of Dec. 1, 2023

It’s an exciting step that will increase access to care for thousands of patients across the state and improve UNC Health Pardee’s ability to fulfill our mission of improving the health of the communities we serve.

What You Need To Know

Beginning Dec. 1, 2023, more people can get health coverage through Medicaid. Medicaid will cover people ages 19 through 64 years with higher incomes. North Carolinians may be able to get health care insurance through Medicaid even if they didn’t qualify before (and those who were eligible before, still are).

Medicaid pays for doctor visits, yearly check-ups, emergency care, mental health services and more – at little or no cost to beneficiaries. For complete details of Medicaid expansion, please visit the NCDHHS site.
