Cardiac Rehabilitation

Did you know that participating in a cardiac rehab program can reduce the risk of future heart problems by as much as 50 percent? You can also improve your personal health risk factors, function, and exercise capacity. Most importantly, cardiac rehab will improve your quality of life because our program fosters lifelong healthy behaviors.

Whether you’re recovering from heart surgery or a heart attack or managing your chronic heart failure or other heart condition, you may be referred to cardiac rehabilitation to help restore your heart’s function.

Cardiac rehabilitation is a comprehensive exercise and education program held on an outpatient basis at Pardee Cardiac Rehab in Hendersonville. Patients typically follow an individualized program, overseen by a supervising physician, for 12 weeks. The program includes:

  • Medically supervised exercise
  • Educational classes and materials
  • Counseling
  • Group support

The goal of cardiac rehab is to reduce morbidity, mortality, and disability from cardiovascular disease, and to help you achieve optimal physical, psychological and social functioning through exercise, education, counseling and group support.

Cardiac Rehab Team

The Pardee Cardiac Rehab team is made up of a medical director, registered nurses, exercise physiologists to help optimize exercise and promote equipment safety, registered dietitians for diet and nutrition plans, mental health specialists for stress management, and a pharmacist to ensure prescription drug safety and access to medication.

A Program Designed Just For You

Our program includes medically supervised exercise with telemetry, which monitors a patient’s heart rhythm during exercise. Classes meets three times per week for approximately one hour. In addition to prescribed exercise to improve your cardiovascular fitness, important components of the Pardee Cardiac Rehab program include education about heart disease and risk factor management, nutrition consultations, ongoing training in stress management, and monitoring lab work and medications. While in the program, patients also have the opportunity to meet with other heart patients, share experiences and address fears and concerns with qualified professionals.

Our program typically lasts between 12 to 18 weeks but can be modified to fit your individual needs.  A member of the Pardee Cardiac Rehab team will create an individualized program that includes:

  • Prescribed exercise to improve cardiovascular fitness without exceeding safe limits
  • Education about heart disease, along with counseling on ways to stabilize or reverse heart disease by improving risk factors such as smoking cessation, cholesterol management, blood pressure management, and diabetes management
