UNC Health Pardee Offering Free Prostate Cancer Screenings on Tuesday, September 17

Wilder Glover Little, MD

UNC Health Pardee is offering free prostate cancer screenings with urologist Glover Little, MD, on Tuesday, September 17, from 5:30 to 7pm. Screenings are by appointment only and will take place at Pardee Cancer Center, located at 805 6th Avenue West in Hendersonville. Participants must call 828-696-1342 to schedule an appointment; walk-ins will not be accepted.

Men aged 40 to 75 who have never been diagnosed with or had treatment for prostate cancer are eligible, provided they have not had another prostate screening within nine months, including DRE and PSA screenings.

“When caught early, prostate cancer is highly treatable,” said Dr. Little. The most common risk factor for prostate cancer is age. Men have an increased chance of being diagnosed with prostate cancer as they age. Other risk factors include racial and ethnic background and family history. Compared with white men, black men are more likely to develop prostate cancer in their lifetime and twice as likely to die from the disease, according to the National Cancer Institute at the National Institute of Health. “Men should talk with their provider about their risk factors and discuss when prostate screening is recommended,” Little added.

UNC Health Pardee is a not-for-profit community healthcare organization and is managed by UNC Health. The hospital, founded in 1953, is licensed for 222 acute care beds. Pardee has several locations separate from the main campus, including a comprehensive physician practice network, a cancer center, four urgent care locations and six orthopedic clinics.
