Hurricane Helene Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP)
People living in 25 western NC counties and members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians living in zip code 28719 impacted by Hurricane Helene can apply to receive a one-time benefit to help buy food through the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP). Free Virtual Care
Adult residents (ages 18+) of WNC can see a UNC Health primary care provider for mild symptoms without an appointment through UNC Health Virtual Care. Now free of charge for those impacted by Hurricane Helene. Virtual services are available 6 AM – 10 PM, 7 days per week. Learn more and get in line at Virtual Care Now
Medical Transport
- Medical transport to UNC Health Pardee Cancer Center and other essential medical needs is available upon request through partnership with Apple Country Transportation.
- Dialysis at DeVita - Apple Country Transportation is running a bus to their Forest City location, leaving Cracker Barrel, Upward Rd. at 12:45pm daily.
- Medicaid: DSS Transportation Unit at (828) 694-6163 from 8am to 4:30pm
