UNC Health Pardee, Southeastern Sports Medicine and Orthopedics to Offer Sports Physicals for Local Student-Athletes at 19 Area Schools
UNC Health Pardee and Southeastern Sports Medicine and Orthopedics announced today their annual initiative to administer sports physicals for local student-athletes who attend 19 middle and high schools in the surrounding area. All physicals will take place from May 1 through June 1 in the respective middle or high school gymnasiums. In order to play school sports, all student-athletes are required by state law to receive an annual physical each academic year for health and safety reasons.
UNC Health Pardee has provided these sports physicals for many years, with support from Southeastern Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, Pardee Sports Medicine, and providers from Pardee BlueMD and Pardee Urgent Care locations. Sports physicals are an important step in preparation for the 2023-2024 academic year.
“Our primary concern is the safety of our student-athletes in any sport they play,” said Dwayne Durham, director of Sports Medicine. “The convenience of offering sports physicals in a familiar setting is helpful to our student-athletes and families alike."
Registration forms for the athletes’ physicals are available from respective team coaches or school front offices. Each student-athlete who plans on receiving a sports physical on the scheduled day must bring a completed registration form with the parent's signature. The cost per child varies depending on each school administration, and parents will be informed via the schools’ respective websites, newsletters, or email. Each physical will be administered by a certified health provider, and schools will ensure there is privacy for students during each physical exam.
