UNC Health Pardee Expands Musculoskeletal Program With the Addition of Four Physicians to Southeastern Sports Medicine and Orthopedics
Drs. Hubert Gooch, James Hoski, Mark Moody and Marshall Ney accepting new patients
UNC Health Pardee continues to expand its musculoskeletal program with the addition of four physicians to Southeastern Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, a Department of Pardee Hospital. Hubert Gooch, MD; James Hoski, MD; Mark Moody, MD; and Marshall Ney, MD formerly of Carolina Spine and Neurosurgery, joined the practice on Oct. 1. In addition to growing the clinical team of Southeastern Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, Pardee’s musculoskeletal program includes surgeries for shoulder, spine, hand, foot and ankle and total joint; physical and occupational therapy, rehabilitation, physiatry, mobility; and sports medicine.
Dr. Gooch, a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic and spine surgeon, is dedicated to equipping his patients with a comprehensive understanding of their condition, diagnosis, treatment alternatives and long-term management strategy. “I find it incredibly rewarding to see patients gain their independence and pursue the activities they love after a successful procedure,” he said. “I look forward to contributing my expertise and helping patients achieve their best musculoskeletal health.” He is passionate about his specialty and continually seeks opportunities for professional development to stay at the forefront of orthopedic medicine and provide the best possible care to patients.
Dr. Hoski said he looks forward to joining the team at Southeastern because of their long history of providing high-quality orthopedic and sports medicine care to Western North Carolina. As a spine specialist, he said his favorite part of his specialty is the opportunity to help educate patients on the cause and natural history of their symptoms, the diagnosis, and help them understand the effect the diagnosis has on the quality of their life, and then partner with them on a treatment plan. Although he is no longer operating, Dr. Hoski notes that he uses his 35 years of surgical experience and knowledge to guide his history taking, physical exams, interpretation of studies such as x-rays and MRIs, diagnosis, and ultimately treatment recommendations for his patients.
Dr. Moody is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic and spine surgeon. His care philosophy is to work through every attempt to return a patient to pain-free, functional health through conservative management of the condition before deciding on surgery. He has a special interest in artificial disc replacement, corrective deformity surgery, minimally invasive surgery and sacroiliac joint dysfunction.
Dr. Ney, who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation, said he was drawn to the field for the opportunity to take a holistic approach to patient care. “I don’t just treat specific conditions or symptoms, I aim to understand and address the complete needs of each individual,” he said. He shared that his passion is fueled by the chance to guide people through the complex and often overwhelming world of healthcare. “Ultimately, my goal is to enhance the quality of life for each patient I work with,” he said. “This personalized approach allows me to make a meaningful difference in their well-being.”
