Rebecca Rice, DO Joins Pardee Bariatrics and General Surgery

UNC Health Pardee continues to expand its surgical program with the addition of Rebecca Rice, D.O., a board-certified and fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon. Dr. Rice has special training in bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery, foregut surgery, and abdominal wall reconstruction.

Dr. Rice said her favorite part of bariatric surgery is helping patients achieve goals that completely change their lives physically, mentally, and emotionally. “My mother had a gastric bypass when I was a freshman in college and I’ve seen firsthand how life changing weight loss surgery can be,” she said. “She got her life back and that was what inspired me to pursue this career.” Dr. Rice believes all patients should have a voice and be heard, “I like to treat every patient like they are a family member to ensure I always provide the highest quality care.”

Dr. Rice earned her medical degree from Touro University Nevada and completed her internship and residency at Western Michigan University. She pursued a fellowship in general surgery at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. “I look forward to joining the Pardee team and creating a unique and lifelong bond with patients, staff, and colleagues.” In her free time, Dr. Rice enjoys hiking, biking, rock climbing, boating, trying new recipes and adventuring with her dog Winnie.
