UNC Health Pardee continues to expand its orthopedic services with the addition of Benjamin Welborn, M.D., a fellowship-trained sports medicine physician and orthopedic surgeon Southeastern Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, a department of Pardee Hospital. Dr. Welborn has specialized training in ACL and ligament reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, management of sports-related injuries, arthroscopic surgery and total joint arthroplasty. 

Dr. Welborn is passionate about making sure his patients have high-quality care. “One of my greatest joys as an orthopedic surgeon is helping patients continue to do the things they love,” Dr. Welborn said. “Whether this be athletes competing at the highest level or the everyday patient in the community continuing their favorite regular activities, helping people maintain a great quality of life is one of my favorite parts of being a physician.”

Dr. Welborn earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his internship and residency training in orthopedic surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Center in Chattanooga, followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at New England Baptist Hospital. “My hope is that through building a relationship with each patient, I can better understand their goals and help them better understand their disease process so we can develop an individualized treatment plan together.”
