Pardee UNC Health Care Beginning Construction on Additional Ramp for Emergency Services Vehicles
Pardee UNC Health Care will begin construction on an additional ramp for emergency services vehicles to utilize for entering the Emergency Department (ED). The addition of this ramp will create a space that will be strictly used for emergency service vehicles, while the existing ramp will be used for public access to the ED. Construction will begin Monday, Aug. 31 and is projected to last through the end of the year.
Over the last two decades, the size and weight of emergency vehicles has significantly increased. Pardee’s ED is located at the top of a parking deck, which requires emergency service vehicles to utilize a ramp to access the entrance. To accommodate the change in size and weight of the emergency service vehicles, Pardee is creating an additional ramp and turnaround area, built on a graded surface. At its completion, the project will provide an alternate patient drop-off and pick-up zone for ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
Throughout the entire course of the construction, the current ramp to the ED will be open to the public; however, there may be periods of single-lane access to and from the entrance. To ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff, barricades and personnel directing traffic will be used to help prevent confusion and control the flow of traffic.
